Afresh: What is your name, and name your group/band/act? Lead singer-Chad Slane, Drums-Tanner Hodgkinson, Lead Guitar- Josh Simpson, Rhythm Guitar- Eddie Hayward, Bass Guitar- Kalen Koelher /  Spinal Cross

Afresh: Where are the artists from? Band Home Town El Reno; Oklahoma

Afresh: How did the band get the name? Chad Slane had a dream Vince Neil came to him and sprinkled pixy dust on his head and he said “You shall call your band ‘Spinal Cross’ .”

Afresh: How would you describe your music/art/entertainment for the public audience if they have never seen you before? A throwback to the 80’s with powerful riff driven guitars, in-your-face drums and vocals that make you wanna stand up and shout.

Afresh: How long have you been performing live or making art? Performing live for three years but each member has prior musical background.

Afresh: Where did you meet your group and how long have you been together now? Chad and Tanner were friends in high school and started the band. And later added Ed, Josh, and Kalen to the roster who are likewise from the area.

Afresh: What has been the biggest challenge for you or the group? Keeping our music original but still having that classic feel.

Afresh: You’ve heard of the term “starving artists” before, how do you cope with major obstacles? When we’re playing a show for all the loyal fans all the major obstacles vanish and it’s worth it.

Afresh:  Do you feel the economic crunch has hurt the industry, or do you have some other promotional tips to help support your music? The entire industry has been affected like anything else but thanks to internet tools such as myspace opportunities are still readily available.

Afresh: Art & Music has an impact on both young and old.  Everyone loves a celebrity, so what advice do you have for the youth of today? Stay in school. Do what you love. Dreams do come true.

Afresh: What does your family think of your performance and do they support you? Our families have been supportive of us from the start they are our first and biggest fans and we appreciate them getting our name out there.

Afresh: What is your stance on how to get the public to support “live music” and see the shows? Any ideas??? Always promote and don’t be afraid to talk to new people.

Afresh: Thinking back, did your family carry on the same musical/artistic interests? Not exactly the same but all of our parents were musicians in some way.

Afresh: Do you have your own favorite type of music and is it any different from what you play now? We have always been fans of the 80s era rock and roll and our music and stage show reflect that.

Afresh: What has been your strong influence to continue performing? The fans are what keep us going, and there is nothing more rewarding than performing in front of people there to support you.

Afresh: Does anyone in particular influence your artistic/musical talent? We all have our own musical influences, but we try to create something that is truly from us.

Afresh: Who does most of the song writing/art/literature? Chad Slane and Tanner Hodgkinson

Afresh: If you had to change one thing about your music/group what do you feel would be the best change to benefit the group overall and why? One of be rich that way we could focus strictly on music all the time. That would be our only job.

Afresh: Have you ever had any strange or stalker type fans that you are aware of? Not really we have great fans and we love getting to talk to them at all our shows.

Afresh: While getting ready to perform have you ever been interrupted by fans who snuck in to the dressing room/rehearsal? Well sometimes we’ve had fans in the dressing room, but they were snuck in more than them sneaking in.

Afresh: Tell us about your most embarrassing moment if you care to share it with us? Chad: One time we wandered around backstage going through corridor after corridor looking for the stage. Must have been back there for thirty minutes. Tanner: That wasn’t us dude.  Chad: Oh yeah that was Spinal Tap. Sorry.

Afresh: What has been the most bizarre thing (thrown) on the stage with you?  How did you react? It’s not really bizarre, but clothing such as shirts, pants, panties, etc

Afresh: What is your wildest story with the group? On stage a girl forced her way on stage and tried to rape Chad until she was finally hauled off by security.

Afresh: What has been the worst nightmare for the group? Hasn’t happened yet but our bus breaking down in the middle of nowhere and the only guy that can help us seems to think we “Sure got a pretty mouth”

How did you get through it all? We would have to send Josh to take one for the team.
