Interview with Randy Houser

Blessed with one of his generation’s great voices, he is also a world-class songwriter, penning hits for artists including Trace Adkins and Justin Moore, and a seasoned entertainer known for the passion and energy he brings to every performance.

Ch.L.: Country Music has many new fans in Europe, who may be hearing about you for the first time. How would you describe yourself and the music you play to someone who has never seen or heard you before?

Randy Houser: I grew up in an area of Mississippi  in the southern states of America. My music blends country with blues, gospel even rock n roll.

Ch.L.: Please tell us about the songs on your new album „They Call Me Cadillac“.

Randy Houser: All are my favorites. If I needed to pick any it would be the third track on the album Addicted. I can really loose myself in the track; its acoustic quite stripped down and not over produced. Another track I also enjoy is A Man Like Me, it is very much like a Conway Twitty track with a bit of  a Dixie Chicks feel about it – it has a real New Orleans vibe about it.

Ch.L.: Do you have any interesting stories about how fans have been affected by your music?

Randy Houser: Yes I get a lot of letters from people in the Iraq war. I have been there on tour myself so realize how important the music is for the soldiers. I have even had letters from the parents of a soldier that has been killed in action saying how important my music was to them, they have even played songs at their funeral. I feel much honored by this.

Ch.L.: Are you doing anything to take country music beyond it’s current borders or are you happy where it is?

Randy Houser: All the time, my music is such a mix of genres, and yes happy to keep pushing the boundaries.

Ch.L.: What drives you?

Randy Houser: Its just in me, I suppose god put it there. I have pure passion for my music and started very early on, my father was a musician so I was surrounded by music.

Ch.L.: What does it take to be a country star?

Randy Houser: Not sure what a country star is. I suppose talent and the right team. I don’t really know I just do what I do.

Ch.L.: What’s unique about you that differentiates you from other artists?

Randy Houser: Not sure how to answer this one

Ch.L.: When you get time off, how do you like to relax?

Randy Houser: I just get on my bike and just see where I get to. I love the freedom and feel of being on a bike, I also love fishing and beech holidays

Ch.L.: What Prive hopes and desires do you have?

Randy Houser: If I had any then they wouldn’t be private

Ch.L.: What can your fans expect to see when they see you in concert?

Randy Houser: That they will get a real show. We don’t have a set structure that we follow we just go with the flow of the concert and what reaction we get from the audience.

Ch.L.: Fans are always hungry for good road stories. Do you have one you can tell?

Randy Houser: We were on tour with Pat Green and there were all these Jagermeister girls who would do a dance to begin with. They would have really tight tight shorts on with chaps (leather leggings) and cowboy hats. Anyway one day we went into their dressing room and dressed up in their clothes to mimic them! Boy were the clothes tight but we managed it. It was great to see the girl’s faces. I think there is a photo somewhere of us unfortunately.

Music brings people all ages together, and sometimes people call it the center to the soul for “WHEN WORDS SPEAK IN A WHISPER, MUSIC SPEAKS LOUD AND PROUD!!!”
