What is your name, and name your group/band/act? NEELY
Where are the artists from? Jeremy grew up in Cosby, MO while Kaci grew up in Bennington, KS.  They now reside in Nashville, TN
What is their talent in the group? Jeremy sings and plays guitar.  Kaci signs.  They both write the music
How did the band get the name? It’s our last name…NEELY
What instrument do you play now? (If applicable) Guitar (acoustic and electric)
What (who) does your act/art consist of? It’s a husband wife pop..rock duo.  Sometimes we have a band with us that consists of Ryan McClintock (lead guitar), Kenny Schneider (drums), and Robert Finnell (Bass).
How would you describe your music/art/entertainment for the public audience if they have never seen you before? Like someone took Creed, Nickleback, Daughtry, and Lifehouse and fused them together.
Give me some details about the group/act/art? We pride ourselves in a high energy yet family friendly show.  Besides that our goal is to just write killer songs that touch people in some fashion…something that moves them.
How long have you been performing live or making art? We’ve been performing live since 2001.  Before that we all did our own little things here and there.
Where did you meet your group and how long have you been together now? Kaci and Jeremy have been married for 14 years (as of May 5th 2010) and have been doing this together since 2001.  Ryan and Kenny started with them in 2007 while Robert started in 2008.
What has been the biggest challenge for you or the group?  Our biggest challenge is being heard in an independent music scene that is just flooded with talent.  Once people give us a chance and listen to our music or watch our live show…they’re on board!
You’ve heard of the term “starving artists” before, how do you cope with major obstacles? We work very hard yet we are very realistic.  You talk to anyone and they dream of being a Rock Star, Country Star, or Pro Athlete.  Realistically though only a small percentage of a percentage will ever attain those levels.  We had to sit down with ourselves and take a really hard look at our talents in a realistic sense and how we could market those talents.  From there we’ve built a business plan and executed it…really many people out there miss out because they are not realistic and either overshoot the runway, so-to-speak, or don’t do it with excellence.

Everyone loves a celebrity so what advice do you have for the youth of today? To quote Peter Parker’s Uncle (Spiderman) “With great power comes great responsibility”.  Celebrity status, even on a local scale, brings great power.  Be wise and responsible with it.

What does your family think of your performance and do they support you? Our family is unbelievably supportive.  Jeremy and Kaci have 4 kids and their parents help them out and watch the kids while they are in tough venues or in the studio.

Thinking back, did your family carry on the same musical/artistic interests? No.  This is a stretch for both Jeremy and Kaci’s family.

Do you have your own favorite type of music and is it any different from what you play now? Our favorite type of music…hmm…I don’t know that we have an absolute favorite if you are referring to artists.  Stylistically we prefer Rock but we listen to Adult Contemporary, Hip-hop, Metal, Country…shoot the other day I listened to a Country Rapper.

Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us? Well right now we are consumed with the business side of music to pay the bills, feed the family.  Speaking of family the 4 kids keep us running when the music doesn’t have us tied up.  It may sound like a simple life but it’s anything but.

What has been your strong influence to continue performing? This is what Kaci and I were made to do.  I’ve worked the 8 – 5 job and it sucks.  I don’t care if it’s working in publishing, recording, touring, booking, promoting, sound and lighting…I want to be involved with the music business some way shape or form.

Does anyone in particular influence your artistic/musical talent? This may sound like a strange mixture but the artists that influenced my writing and performance the most are:  Metallica because of the raw emotion in their songs was a huge influence.  Then there’s Garth Brooks for the story telling and the live entrainment aspect.  Really I can say that anything that I have listened to good, bad, or indifferent has really influenced how I approach music.
Who does most of the song writing/art/literature? Jeremy Neely, Kaci Neely, and Ryan McClintock
If you had to change one thing about your music/group what do you feel would be the best change to benefit the group overall and why? To have our own production crew and equipment (if we had a blank check of course) so we could put on a killer live show and be ultra creative with it.
Have you ever had any strange or stalker type fans that you are aware of? A few.
While getting ready to perform have you ever been interrupted by fans who snuck in to the dressing room/rehearsal? Not yet.
Tell us about your most embarrassing moment if you care to share it with us? We haven’t had anything too embarrassing happen other than forgetting the words to our songs…which we write so that feels pretty weird.

What has been the most bizarre thing (thrown) on the stage with you? You know I forgot about this until just now but years ago we were playing in an old High School gymnasium and a group of guys heaved a fat kid up on stage.  Does that count?  He ran over and put his arm around me (Jeremy) and then hopped off the stage.
How did you react? I was bewildered but I knew it could have been worse.  And my guitar teacher always told me, “no matter what keep going…even if you mess up or if someone distracts you.”  So I guess my training just kicked in.  That sounded way too Ninja like…wow.
What is your wildest story with the group? These questions make me feel old and boring…we’re so business focused all the time.  Dang it Jiggy next hotel we’re in we are going to trash it!  No, not really…sorry just got caught up in the moment.

What has been the worst nightmare for the group? Most of the sound systems we play on.  You’ve got 5 people on stage all needing to hear 5 different things but you usually only have one mix and 3 monitors to share.  Not to mention that the mix that comes through is usually muddy and isn’t really worth a hoot.
How did you get through it all? Grin and bear it.  Hope that the alcohol serves as some for of musical “beer goggles”.
What are your up-to-date performance plans? Kaci and I are going on a two month acoustic tour across the country.  Maybe longer if we can pick up more dates.

New releases? We just recently released our debut album “Everything I Am” at the end of 2009.  It’s available at or iTunes,, Rhapsody, and such
Tours? We’re going to try to tour from coast to coast in 2010 so watch our website for updates.
News? Outside of us moving to Nashville we constantly blog about amazing, stupid, or amazingly stupid things that are going on in our lives.  Just watch for updates at or subscribe to our RSS feed to be updated when we update the blog.

If you could perform with anyone in the world, either dead or alive who would it be? Kaci would pick Daughtry cause that’s her favorite artist of the moment and I would pick Lynard Skynard because I’m a Southern Boy that loves rock.
What is the furthest show from your home that you have done? Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada we did a National TV Show there.
Have you been involved in any benefit performances? All kinds of them!

What was it and how did you become involved? We did an acoustic concert for the Central Kansas Red Cross.  They just asked us to help out.
Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc.? No…none of those.  Now we feel really lame.

Is this your first interview or do you have some other articles/stories about you posted somewhere for public viewing? We did have an article done on us for the Salina Journal as well as Alternative Addiction ( had us in their Indie Spotlight for March 2010.

Do you have any video links where people can see you? Yeah we have a You-tube plug in right on the front page of

Do you have a website of any type? Yeah we are all over the place.  We have our main sight: as well as our myspace: and we are on Facebook too but I’m not sure of that URL but any major web presence has a link to it from
