leonardo-chopAfresh: What is your name, and name your group/band/act? Leonardo. Chop or LC, whichever keeps your boat floating.

Afresh: Where are the artists from?  What is their talent in the group? I’m hailing from St.Louis, Missiouri

Afresh: How did the band get the name? It’s an interesting story … I went by the name “Cloud Hopper” when I first started off …. The guys I worked with had mixed opinions about it. My friend Kevin Booker thought it sounded to much like a “Clipse” phrase.  I wanted to stand out, I was maturing as an artist, and it was just time to leave that name, and a lot that was associated with it behind…  My favorite artist has always been Leonardo Da Vinci … I relay myself to him in music, Just trying to paint a picture if that makes sense… So I took “Leonardo” … Abbreviated Cloud Hopper to “Chop”, eliminated the period because I never stop.. and POW! You’ve got Leonardo. Chop… There’s more to the story… But that’s the basis. lol . I just kind of morphed into LC … It was all organic and natural.!

Afresh: What (who) does your act/art consist of? Me, and probably some amazing work from my producers the “Geek Squad” .. On a good day you’ll get the whole team, which consists of Me, P DizZzy, and Jae B … We all make the a super team called “The Academy” … It’s like back on Power Rangers when they all came together to form “Megazord” .. That was the best !

Afresh: Give me some details about the group/act/art? I’m a different sound from my city. St.Louis has kind of been slapped with a label or a stereotype that suggesting that we all sound one way, and dress one way. I’m kicking that door down. Period. It’s a new era, and I’m standing on top of it with a fresh pair of bapes.

Afresh: How long have you been performing live or making art? I wrote my first rhyme at 13, I stopped writing at 18 and just started recording, with no pen or pad. Just thoughts. I put out my first freestyle around that time.

Afresh: What has been the biggest challenge for you or the group? Just being heard, but I understand that comes with time and a lot of hard work. The biggest challenge has just been the dealing with all the BS the industry comes along with. You have to be alert man.

Afresh: You’ve heard of the term “starving artists” before, how do you cope with major obstacles? Prayer, and perseverance. Flat-out.

Afresh: Art & Music has an impact on both young and old.  Everyone loves a celebrity, so what advice do you have for the youth of today? I think I may still be considered as a youth. My advice is just do it ! Almost every millionaire is a risk taker. Don’t be scared to go out there and chase your dreams dude. F what everyone else says. No matter how young or old you are. Your never too young or too old to rage out and achieve what you set your mind to.

Afresh: What is your stance on how to get the public to support “live music” and see the shows?  Any ideas??? Just make your sure your everything ! Give 500% each time you go out there ! Start a riot. Rage out ! Make it memorable for the people coming to see you .. Turn your fans into believers!

Afresh: Thinking back, did your family carry on the same musical/artistic interests? Definitely… My father sparked the fire. I was exposed to a lot of music at an early age, which is kind of why I don’t believe in genre’s. I just believe in good music you know ? I was like 6 or 7 listening to people like Burning Spear, Wynton Marsalis, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Santana, Al Green, Four Play … The list can go on for days, but just being exposed to that inspired me to do what I’m doing now.

Afresh: Do you have your own favorite type of music and is it any different from what you play now? Not really.. Like I said, I don’t really believe in different “types” of music … There’s good music, and bad music. Lol. That’s it to my ears. As long as it’s good I love it … absolutely love it

Afresh: Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us? I’m a pretty dope fashion designer on the low .. I sketch shirts, and kicks on the regular when I’m not doing music. Hopefully that will evolve into something people will appreciate like my music. Other than that, I wanna sing. Maybe one day right ? lol

Afresh: If you had to change one thing about your music/group what do you feel would be the best change to benefit the group overall and why? I wouldn’t change a thing about my music. If I did, it wouldn’t be me … I’m sure I will grow as an artist, and my sound will also, But as far as saying, “Hey, I’m going to CHANGE this to fit something else” I’d never do that.

Afresh: Have you ever had any strange or stalker type fans that you are aware of? Yepp .. Shout out to her, and we’ll leave it at that. lol

Afresh: While getting ready to perform have you ever been interrupted by fans who snuck in to the dressing room/rehearsal? Nah, not yet. That sounds pretty fun though. Any ladies wanna sneak into my dressing room before I go on stage ? lol. RAGE!

Afresh: What has been the most bizarre thing (thrown) on the stage with you?  How did you react? The only thing that has ever been thrown up at any of my shows has been hands. So, no bad luck with that yet. lol

Afresh: What are your up-to-date performance plans?  New releases? Tours? News? Well on May 7th, I’m opening up for Clipse in White Plains NY, so come check that out. As soon as I get off that stage, and I right back in the studio finishing up my second project titled 2000&TENSION. Once that’s finished I’ll def be rocking a stage in a city near you so stay updated. Believe that.

Afresh: If you could perform with anyone in the world, either dead or alive who would it be? Why? (Name up to three) This is hard, but not really. Okay, Michael Jackson because he’s just the greatest, not to mention his shows are like being in a different world. Literally. It’s amazing. Kanye’s shows teeter somewhere around that experience, So I’d say Kanye for the second. Third would probably be Lil Wayne, because he has literally perfected his stage presence. I’d love to be a part of any of his shows. Free Tunechi

Afresh: What is the furthest show from your home that you have done ? The beautiful Los Angeles, California

Afresh:  How do you feel about file swapping? I think it’s cool to an extent . If you have a real fan base, they’re gonna love and support you no matter which way it goes. I think file sharing or file swapping may give someone who’s never heard of you a preview of how ill you are. Itunes, and people like Rhapsody are making it better for the artist . Overall, I’m not hating on it. As long as your listening to me, you’ve got my blessing. I don’t care how you get it. Just get it.

Afresh: Have you been involved in any benefit performances?  What was it and how did you become involved? I haven’t yet, but I really want to.

Afresh: Do you have any video links where people can see you? Open your eyes to

Afresh: Do you have a website of any type?  (Name all options) If your tweeting then follow me @LeonardoChop, I’m on facebook under Leonardo Chop. If your browsing through myspace be sure to at my music page . If all else fails drop something in my email –
