“Weathering the Storm”

By: Keith Courage

In this day in age, 30% of Hip Hop Fans are Producers (So some of them think).  It is rare that you come across that Diamond in the rough and James “J-Dilla” Yancy (If you’re a so-called producer and you don’t know who this man is then your prolly NOT a producer, Yeah I said it!!) was your Producers Favorite Producer (Just ask Timbaland, Dr. Dre, Just Blaze, the Neptunes, and just about any other producer that is doing it professionally)!!  But With his untimely passing in 2006 a void in production for acts such as Busta Rhymes, Slum Village, PhatKat, Erykah Badu and Jill Scott Just to name a few.

However beyond the northern border of the USA into Montreal, Quebec, Canada.  A young lad by the name of Kevin “DJ KC” Celestin (Kaytrydamus if you nasty) was sitting in his room clicking away and pushing keys on a keyboard sampling Lots and Lots of Michael Jackson and the Jacksons Music, doing Wonderful Magic to the sampled music that would make even J-Dilla Ask for a pass back to this life!! With his latest Beat Tapes “The Weather Report” & “Unreleased Vol. 1”  Making so much noise on the internet (Especially Facebook) This Haitian Born genius will soon have Busta Bus beating down his door for a Remix!!!

Keith Courage: When did you fall in love with Hip Hop?

Kaytradamus: I remember when I was five years old, my sisters had this tape of the dopest 1996-1997 hip-hop music videos. I remember Biggie was my favorite at that time when he came out with Hypnotize.

Keith: What got you started Producing Hip hop, and how long have you been    doing this?

KC: It all started when I bumped the Donuts album by J Dilla. That album made me wanted to do beats, I was like Wow, that’s too ill and since I learned how to make beats I did my own CD and it sounded a lil bit the same but it was wack.

Keith: What equipment do you use, for how long and would you upgrade why or why not?

KC: Well all I use is my laptop, and a keyboard since I started and I wish I could upgrade to better instruments because it’s wack. I know I’ll get some new equipment soon though.

Keith: What instruments can you play?

KC: Well, I use to play the piano when I was younger and then I quit. Now im looking forward to take piano lessons again.

Keith: Tell me about your latest project(s)

KC: Well, I got this new beat tape called “Unreleased Vol. 1” where there are some hip hop & electro joints by me & there’s also “the Weather Report”. People call it the beat tape of the year. Go get it, you could find it on Google.

Keith: If you could be any producer/composers apprentice for a day who would you pick?

KC: I would say Madlib or Mark Ronson, because they are really dope & they make the realest music & I’d be honored.

Keith: Name 5 of your favorite artist of all time (any type of music)

KC: 1.J Dilla 2- Madlib 3- Justice 4-Michael Jackson 5-The Notorious B.I.G.

Keith: Other than yourself, name another underground producer that is next up?

KC: Well. There are plenty of underground producers that I know but I gotta say Munoz because he’s 14 and he makes better beats than me.
