FUCK THE FACTS band

My name is Topon and I play in Fuck The Facts.

Afresh: Where are the artists from? What is their talent in the group?

We’re based out of the Ottawa area. But some of our members live in the Toronto area as well.

Afresh: How did the band get the name?

I stole it from a Naked City album.

Afresh: What instrument do you play now? (If applicable)

Guitar.

Afresh: What (who) does your act/art consist of?

Johnny & I play guitar, Marc plays bass, Vil drums and Mel screams.

Afresh: How would you describe your music/art/entertainment for the public audience if they have never seen you before?

Bastardized Grindcore, it’s probably not your thing.

Afresh: Give me some details about the group/act/art?

I think most details have been answered in other questions.

Afresh: How long have you been performing live or making art?

We started in 2001, so we’re going on 10 years

Afresh: What do you feel distinguishes “an artist” from just a musician?

I would think that an artist creates something, while a musician just does what he’s told to do.

Afresh: Where did you meet your group and how long have you been together now?

10 years. Just friends I’ve met over the years, playing shows with their other bands mainly.

Afresh: What has been the biggest challenge for you or the group?

Keeping 5 people together excited about the same things.

Afresh: You’ve heard of the term “starving artists” before, how do you cope with major obstacles?

I’ve never been rich or had a lot of stuff, so it was an easy transition.

Afresh: Do you feel the economic crunch has hurt the industry, or do you have some other promotional tips to help support your music?

Perhaps it has and perhaps it hasn’t. Life is all ups and downs, so if it’s bad now it’ll probably get worse or better at some point. The only thip I could give is to just keep doing what you do. If you feel strongly about it, most likely there will be some people out there that will also enjoy it.

Afresh: Art & Music has an impact on both young and old. Everyone loves a celebrity, so what advice do you have for the youth of today?

Don’t act like a shit bag. Life will crush you at some point just like everyone else.

Afresh: What does your family think of your performance and do they support you?

Mom loves it.

Afresh: What is your stance on how to get the public to support “live music” and see the shows? Any ideas???

Play an awesome show & have something people think is worth seeing. If you do something worth seeing live, people will go see you.

Afresh: Thinking back, did your family carry on the same musical/artistic interests?

Just my older brother, he got me started.

Afresh: Do you have your own favorite type of music and is it any different from what you play now?

I try and listen to as much different music as possible.

Afresh: Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us?

Nope, music is pretty much it.

Afresh: What has been your strong influence to continue performing?

Excitement about what lies ahead.

Afresh: Does anyone in particular influence your artistic/musical talent?

Everyone and everything, good and bad.

Afresh: Who does most of the song writing/art/literature?

We all actively involved in the writing of the bands music and our singer does most of our artwork and lyrics.

Afresh: If you had to change one thing about your music/group what do you feel would be the best change to benefit the group overall and why?

If we could be less people life would be a lot easier.

Afresh: Where would you like to see yourself within the next five years as an artist?

Right here, doing what I’m doing now. Just playing and getting excited about the new shit.

Afresh: Have you ever had any strange or stalker type fans that you are aware of?

It’s never been bad. I can’t be upset if someone is that interested in what we do.

Afresh: While getting ready to perform have you ever been interrupted by fans who snuck in to the dressing room/rehearsal?

I like to warm up a bunch before we play, so sometimes I have to go into the van to do this uninterrupted. But in general we always talk to everyone whenever they want to talk to us.

Afresh: Tell us about your most embarrassing moment if you care to share it with us?

Playing like shit. It’s the worst feeling in the word.

Afresh: What has been the most bizarre thing (thrown) on the stage with you? How did you react?

I can’t remember, but I probably just ignored it. I try not to pay too much attention to what happening around me on stage.

Afresh: What is your wildest story with the group?

We went to soccer match in Berlin. It was the most boring thing I’ve ever experienced in my life.

Afresh: What has been the worst nightmare for the group? How did you get through it all?

Playing like shit. Just have to do it better the next night.

Afresh: What are your up-to-date performance plans? New releases? Tours? News?

Working on a new album now, we hope to have it out early-ish next year and start touring everywhere again.

Afresh: If you could perform with anyone in the world, either dead or alive who would it be? Why? (Name up to three)

Myself 10 years ago, just cause that would be really freaky.

Afresh: What is the furthest show from your home that you have done?

I don’t know, maybe Sweden? definitely somewhere in Europe.

Afresh: How do you feel about file swapping?

I’m not gonna stop you. I do it myself.

Afresh: Have you been involved in any benefit performances? What was it and how did you become involved?

I think we have, but I honestly don’t remember any of the causes.

Afresh: How do you think you would like to be remembered by everyone if something were to happen to you?

As a weirdo.

Afresh: If you had only five minutes on earth to perform one song that could leave a great impact on the world today, what song would you perform and why did you choose this particular piece?

Something by Massona, because that would be irritating as fuck.

Afresh: As an artist, is there anything special you hope to be able to accomplish?

Not really, just keeping doing my thing until I day. Maybe one day I’d like to ride a motorcycle.

Afresh: When things seem to go negatively at times, how do you turn things into something positive?

I lock myself in a room and keep telling myself to not go insane. Then I just wait.

Afresh: What do you attribute to your “drive as an artist”?

Border line insanity with no real regard for my future.

Afresh: If you had to think of a slogan that could leave a positive impact for everyone what would your slogan be?

“Who gives a fuck. We’re all gonna be dead soon anyway.”

Afresh: Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc.?

I get cheap strings from Dean Markley and Relapse Records has been releasing our albums. That is all.

Afresh: If you have a current CD released, how long did the process take for you to do from start to finish?

From the beginning of writing until we get the CD in our hands is usually 2-3 years.

Afresh: Are there any other “behind the scene” secrets, tips, or additional information you would like to share with our readers?

Not really.

Afresh: Is this your first interview or do you have some other articles/stories about you posted somewhere for public viewing?

I’ve done a lot of interviews.

Afresh: Do you have any video links where people can see you?

Check our Youtube channel. youtube.com/0908

Afresh: Do you have a website of any type? (Name all options)

Just one: www.fuckthefacts.com

Music brings people all ages together, and sometimes people call it the center to the soul for “WHEN WORDS SPEAK IN A WHISPER, MUSIC SPEAKS LOUD AND PROUD!!!”
