Down From UP!

Afresh: What is your name, and name your group/band/act? – matt brewster of down from up
Afresh: Where are the artists from?  What is their talent in the group?  knoxville TN.
Afresh: How did the band get the name?  it was a lyric in a very old song of ours.
Afresh: What instrument do you play now? (If applicable) i am the frontman, and play rhythm guitar… and on occasion the keys.
Afresh: What (who) does your act/art consist of? guitar center’s guitarmagedon national champion andy wood, thats who. and not to mention matt reynolds on bass and andy campbell on the drums.
Afresh: How would you describe your music/art/entertainment for the public audience if they have never seen you before?  hard rock with a lot of notes
Afresh: Give me some details about the group/act/art? well, we have 2 matts and 2 andys, where else are you going to find that
Afresh: How long have you been performing live or making art? me personally about 9 years, geez, where does the time go.
Afresh: Where did you meet your group and how long have you been together now? we all just feel into place over time.  i met andy wood in about 2003, then we met andy campbell a year or two later, and he introduced us to matt reynolds.
Afresh: What has been the biggest challenge for you or the group? keeping tires on our trailer.
Afresh: You’ve heard of the term “starving artists” before, how do you cope with major obstacles?  dollar menu
Afresh: Everyone loves a celebrity so what advice do you have for the youth of today?  find a celebrity, ask them,  then do the opposite.
Afresh: What does your family think of your performance and do they support you? they love it now, probably not so much at first. when i started doing this, i was about a month away from being an architect… which do you think most parents would prefer?
Afresh: Thinking back, did your family carry on the same musical/artistic interests? my grandfather had a country/bluegrass group called the brewster brothers. they played live on the radio back then, and were featured on the cas walker show.
Afresh: Do you have your own favorite type of music and is it any different from what you play now?  i like what we do, and what similar bands do, but i like, like we all do, plenty of different kinds of music. everybody in the band got here through a different avenue of music. i didn’t like hard music, until we started playing it.
Afresh: Do you have other interests or talents you would like to share with us? how much time do you have?
Afresh: What has been your strong influence to continue performing? the 25 minuets on stage.  out on tour, you are in a van, waiting around, loading or unloading the trailer, doing merch inventory, driving through the night; just being uncomfortable for 23 and half hours of the day, but it is all worth it for the 25 minuets in front of some rock crazy fans.
Afresh: Does anyone in particular influence your artistic/musical talent?
Afresh: Who does most of the song writing/art/literature? we all do.
Afresh: If you had to change one thing about your music/group what do you feel would be the best change to benefit the group overall and why? if i could change anything, it would be the physics. you see, its very hard to play difficult music and run around and do backflips off of drum sets. if it was easy to do both of those things, now that would be a show. but for now we are going to stick around with playing lots of notes, and try to land a flip during a break or something.
Afresh: Have you ever had any strange or stalker type fans that you are aware of? yes.
Afresh: While getting ready to perform have you ever been interrupted by fans who snuck in to the dressing room/rehearsal?
Afresh: Tell us about your most embarrassing moment if you care to share it with us?
Afresh: What has been the most bizarre thing (thrown) on the stage with you?  How did you react?
Afresh: What is your wildest story with the group?
Afresh: What has been the worst nightmare for the group?  How did you get through it all?  several years ago, i was just a guitar player in the group, and our singer quit. at first it was a very difficult time. then i got the promotion, and we haven’t looked back.  at the time it was our worst nightmare, looking back it was one of the greatest things to happen to us.
Afresh: What are your up-to-date performance plans?  New releases?  Tours? News?  we just got home off of the sevendust tour, and our big focus now is writing the new record. we are going to austin for a few weeks to work on it there for a bit, just to get a change of pace, and hopefully some fresh creative ideas. we do have a one off show coming up with chevelle in TN, so we are looking forward to that.
Afresh: If you could perform with anyone in the world, either dead or alive who would it be? Why? (Name up to three) oh geez…
Afresh: What is the furthest show from your home that you have done?  we did a performance at NAMM this year, which is in LA.
Afresh: Have you been involved in any benefit performances?  What was it and how did you become involved? we did a lot of them many moons ago. as a local band just getting started, they were a great way to get out there.
Afresh: Do you currently have an agent, endorsement, record label, sponsor, etc.? we are with Holmz music, which has been great. holmz has taken us under their wing and basically acts as every aspect of the business that we need. management, label, agent, etc. we have a handful of endorsements as well. i play Acepro guitars and use get m’ get m’ straps.  andy wood plays Suhr guitars and diezel amps with TC Electronics gear as well.
Afresh: Is this your first interview or do you have some other articles/stories about you posted somewhere for public viewing?  this is not our first,  but i couldn’t tell you if any of them were still available to look at.
Afresh: Do you have any video links where people can see you? plenty..  there are videos at downfromup.com with more at youtube.com/styles22 and youtube.com/downfromup
Afresh: Do you have a website of any type?  you can find us on all of the big sites. myspace.com/downfromup – facebook and twitter..   go ahead and add us, you know you want to. let us know that jiggy jaguar sent you.
Afresh: Please feel free to add any other information you want to share with the public audience/readers.
