Why do we read articles, listen to radio or television, searching over the internet air ways just to find “gossip”? Why do we “dig for dirt”? What prompts us to “add fuel to the fires”? Humans do some pretty strange things without thinking about the consequences at times. Once you have made the mistake of “talking trash” about someone or something, how do you think the public will really react to you later on when the truth turns up on top?

As an artist myself, I have been burned many times and I have many true heart-wrenching stories to tell. There is always something to learn from the mistakes we make, but at what expense! Sometimes, the truth hurts more than we care to speak about, and it doesn’t always help to talk about it. I found that out the hard way more than once.

I believe in order to promote the artists of any form (art, music, entertainment); you must begin with positive feedback! You decide what story needs to be told; then, be sure to tell it honestly. If you are a promoter, then you already know that all the work you do can Read More→

Liars, Haters, and Dictators

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on Liars, Haters, and Dictators

In life, we have our own ethic standards based upon how we were raised, our religious beliefs, people we associate with, friends, family, and others who have made contact with us. So why are we known by “the company we keep”?

Some people automatically assume that if you are hanging out with someone for even an instant that you have to be like “that person”. Where a few individuals fall wrong with this concept, is first of all they say “opposites attract”; but secondly if you are a journalist, “you may just be doing a brief story” so you find yourself in a place you may already feel a bit uncomfortable!

Although first impressions may have a lot to do with how someone else may sum you up, you have to please YOURSELF first. You are one the paying your bills, living your life, raising your children, and “molding yourself into the “somebody” you are”.chipmunks-1a

I remember my son wearing a t-shirt as a child that said “God doesn’t make junk!” I always thought he seemed more confident when he Read More→

SWIRL On Tour w/ Extreme & RATT-Interview

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on SWIRL On Tour w/ Extreme & RATT-Interview

About SWIRL:

Started by brothers -and they are related too-Duane “DT” Jones on lead guitar and Brian “Bam Bam” Jones on the drums. Lead singer Al Ramirez and bassist Shane Carlson complete the relocated, re-tooled Swirl line up! Swirl left the studio with 2 new tracks “Adrenaline” and “Sleepwalker” in May 2008 (which feature Cinderella drummer Fred Coury playing on, producing, co- writing and mixing) to add to the tracks previously produced by both former Quiet Riot/ current Ratt co-lead guitarist Carlos Cavazo and ex-Rough Cutt bassist Matt Thorr. Swirl’s blending of classic metal influences, modern style production, writing, recording techniques and high energy live show is getting the band a lot of attention in a very short time.

Story & Interview by Anne Shiever:  I’ve had the great pleasure of hearing these guys play in Kansas City at the Riot Room in December of 2008.  They also recently visited The BLUE GOAT of our hometown in Salina KS among other great venues in the Kansas area.  Now that the tour with Ratt is completely underway, we look forward to seeing them and hearing them play live again.  A band you truly won’t want to miss, as they step from the ground floor gracefully climbing their way to the top through the support of their great fans!

Here is our interview with DT from Swirl….

What is your name, and name your group/band/act?
Hello this is DT, guitarist for the hard rock/ heavy metal band Swirl

Where are the artists from? What is their talent in the group?
Swirl started in Seattle, WA; then relocated to Los Angeles and Inland Empire Counties on California with
Brian “Bam Bam” Jones on drums; Al Ramirez on lead vocals; Duane DT Jones guitar, backing vocals; and Shane Carlson on bass, backing vocals..

How did the band get the name?

Our name came about during a car ride from Seattle to Santa Monica, CA for a demo recording session that ultimately became our debut Read More→

NO MORE DRAMA!!!!  Can publicity be your friend or foe???

Now here’s a concept I usually don’t write about, but for a change I decided it’s time to stick up for others who fall into the “negative-positive” side of publicity. Someone is always trying to “get their name out there”, that’s the great thing about Publicity. Does it matter who gets used to get the name out there? Too many people become a victim because of ‘hearsay BS, basic venting, more Drama’ because some people have nothing better to do than get some juicy gossip going for Free Publicity!!!

So I took time to ask a few writers, promoters, musicians, photographers, and models recently to see what they had to say on the subject of good and bad publicity! I was shocked at how many “victims” there were in the public eye! For the one seeking Publicity, they say the “negative drama and the on-line blog wars get people curious and the ratings go way up”. This statement actually came from a college law student after learning about such legal terms. It’s great for them because people want to see someone argue a debate over defending themselves.”

If someone saves a life, they get a little publicity, maybe even an accommodation, or some television and radio exposure. Then it becomes Read More→

2009 HOPE TOUR Featuring “Stone Temple Pilots”

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on 2009 HOPE TOUR Featuring “Stone Temple Pilots”

Scott Weiland said this about being chosen to kick off the huge charity event to bring hope to the children:

“We are humbled, honored and filled with grace by being given this very special opportunity. To be asked to play the first of what we hope will be many of these events for children in dire medical needs at St. Jude Rock n Roll show. Reading the press release I am almost embarrassed as it lists accolades of a life of music. The good life. What the rest speaks of is the horrible but true realities that those diseases bring to children and these families.”

DANNY TALLENT Sings At CD Release Party

Posted by: | Comments Comments Off on DANNY TALLENT Sings At CD Release Party

In May 2008, Danny Tallent the bass player for the Backlash Band lost his lovely wife, Ashley during a terrible car accident.  Danny survived the accident after several hours of trauma, where he was found and then life-watched to Topeka hospital where critical moments became long suffering days.  Fighting to survive, he eventually found out his wife was no longer with him.

No one fully understands why loved ones are taken from this earth, but we know God has a purpose for all of us here.  Danny, a survivor, was one of the most fantastic bass players for his age.  Danny & Ashley wrote two of the songs on the new Backlash Band CD release on May 29, 2009 Read More→
